Look What You Made Me Do..

photo credit: Enokson via photopin cc
I'm thinking about that phrase today, the "look what you made me do" phrase, because I used it last night with one of my sons. I've used this phrase a lot and I grew up  hearing this phrase.

It's actually a pretty funny phrase, because when I was younger I would be like, "oh, really and how did 'I' make you drop this or spill that?" And now as a parent I can see!! Because you see...when we use this phrase that means that our stress level has already reached it's max.

And once we use that phrase it means someone has exceeded the threshold of our stress level limit and caused us to drop something or spill something. It also means that the young person more than likely already ignored the pleas from the parent to please stop.

The "we're not going to talk about this right now" or "I'm really, really busy right now" (maybe with your hands in raw meat or something - that kind of busy) or the "for the love of God, please stop" (whatever it is that you would like them to stop doing - nagging, a temper tantrum, tormenting each other - anything).

So when the child just keeps going when you asked them to stop, then the blame is instantly on them when you spill something or drop something, or maybe even accidentally walk into something. Anything instantly becomes the child's fault and out comes the "look what you made me do" phrase and the "now see, if you had just stopped, I wouldn't have spilled this, or walked into that, or banged myself with the cabinet" - you get the picture here.

Random Acts of Kindness Ideas

photo credit: The Sean & Lauren Spectacular via photopin cc
First, before I share my short list of random acts of kindness ideas I wanted to share a few stories of my own. I was raised to believe that if we do something nice for someone we shouldn't "boast" about it or brag about it.

But in the case of the inspiration that I see coming out of the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook I think that it's helping our country to heal by seeing so many beautiful stories of random acts of kindness.

I've always been a believer in random acts of kindness my whole life and I hope that people stick with this because there are things that you can do all year long to make our world a better place. And how rewarding is it to bring happiness to others? There is no price tag on that reward. You can make a difference in someone's life even with just a kind word, an ear to listen or a smile. This is so true...

I'd like to share a few stories where people did nice things for me over the years, because it shows you that there are those of us that truly do appreciate it and will never forget a random act of kindness. I will also share one of my own, just one though because I don't like to brag.

My Special Memories of Random Acts of Kindness

There are many, but these ones stand out in my mind in particular....Well when my older boys were younger we didn't have a washer and dryer, so I took our laundry to the laundromat and there was this really nice lady that worked there named Carmen. She immediately took me and my boys under her wing. I was there a lot doing laundry and we'd always talk. She was very motherly/grandmotherly with us. My now 12-year-old son was just four at the time.

Anyhow, she would always give him loose change that she found around the laundromat when she'd clean. She would give me hugs and everything sometimes just because. She's a very loving person and most people that went in there loved her. Well this one Mother's Day she gave me a Mother's Day Card and inside the card was $50. She made me take it; insisted on it actually and I'll never forget her or that day as long as I live... Years later I brought her flowers on Mother's Day with a card and if I ever get rich she's on my list to visit and help out.

Christmas of 2008, I took my boys to get our Christmas tree at a tree lot in search of the perfect tree and a man that worked there asked if he could help us. I told him how much money I had to work with and what I was looking for. He found us the perfect tree but it was $20 more than what I could afford. He gave us the tree anyway and even helped us get it to my car. He knew when he took us to this tree that it wasn't in my budget but he guided us to it anyway; that really touched my heart that year.

When my older boys were little, one Christmas a neighbor of mine left me $100 inside of a Christmas card in my mailbox. It was signed, "From Santa," but I knew it was her because another neighbor told me later. It was touching because I barely knew her. She lived down the street from us.

Christmas of 2010, my brothers business was finally starting to boom and he wanted to do something nice for me. He called me one day and said that him and the wife were gonna stop by to give me my present. He hands me a Christmas card. Inside was a check addressed to me for $500. Both the check and what he wrote brought me to tears. I cried in my brothers arms because it was the sweetest thing ever.

Christmas of 2011, I had an old friend's wife offer to adopt my family for Christmas. I was truly touched by this because she didn't have to. I let no one know I was struggling that year and...we're a big family, lol. She really did a lot for all of us, even me. It was touching.

Winter of 2011, I was having a difficult time and one day my 6-year-old who at the time was five and in kindergarten, he needed a new coat. His teacher randomly called me and said she had a coat for him. This act of kindness was paid forward from something I did years earlier....

When my older boys were younger my oldest son had a friend that I always felt bad for when I saw him walking to school. His coat was old and didn't fit him. The sleeves were short, he had no hood, no hat, no gloves, and it always just really bothered me. I knew that his parents were good people and that did the best they could, so I decided to do something about it. I bought him a new coat and gloves, then had my sister in law knit him a scarf and hat.

I gave it to his teacher to give to him as an anonymous gift. He never knew it was from me until this past year when one of my boys finally decided to tell him. He said they always wondered who it was from. Back then my reward didn't come from them knowing it was from me. It came from seeing him walking to school with his new coat, hat and gloves knowing that he was warm. I smiled to myself every time I saw him.

Which brings us to my list of ideas...

Random Acts of Kindness Ideas

These are ideas that you can do all year long and if you think of something that I didn't add, please feel free to comment with your idea!

*  Thank a teacher, first responders, a police officer, your principal, mental health worker, guidance counselor, service man, or anyone that has made a difference in your life or your community or the world!

*  Christmas time donate a stocking full of surprises or several stockings full of surprises to a child in need.

*  Christmas time adopt a family or child in need.

*  If you know a family in your town in need, then Christmas time secretly adopt them. Buy a few gifts for their children and randomly leave the gifts by their door and do it anonymously. Maybe leave a note:  "Merry Christmas, From Santa."

*  Any time of year randomly or regularly donate food and other items to your local food pantry. At the holidays help a family in need to have a nice holiday meal by donating a turkey, or ham, etc.

*  Leave $10-$20 or however much you'd like to leave inside of a box of diapers or baby wipes at your local grocery store or department store.

*  Leave a generous tip for your waiter, waitress, cab driver, hair dresser, etc.

*  Thank your cashier. Even if she's not so friendly, maybe she's not so friendly because the 20 people before you treated her like garbage.

*  Donate a hat, coat, gloves, etc. to a child in need.

*  In June before summer break donate a book bag or a couple of book bags full of school supplies for children of different ages, maybe a kindergartner or 3rd grader, etc. Then donate them to a school and ask them to give them to a family in need that way those families that maybe struggle to buy school supplies for their kids won't have to worry come September. What a nice idea right?

*  Do something nice for a new mom. Treat her out to lunch or maybe offer to babysit so she can go and get her nails done or maybe her hair done, or how about bring her lunch and offer to do some dishes.  Watch the baby so she can take a little nap; anything like that.

*  Do something nice for a hard working mom or dad. Maybe a gift card to eat out at their favorite restaurant or something nice like that.

*  When you see that Salvation Army guy or gal at Christmas time ringing that bell out in the cold for donations to families in need tell them what a great job their doing and maybe treat them to a hot cocoa.

My Thoughts About More Security in Schools

I really have to applaud President Obama right now. His grief is genuine and anyone can see that. I was just reading an article about his speech in Newtown, CT, and, you know, sadly there are so many more things our schools should do that they shouldn't have to do to protect our kids. I was thinking about this yesterday... This particular school had a "buzz in" security system, but the perp broke in through a window.

I say change all the windows on the bottom floors to a non-breakable glass, have someone patrol the property and maybe even have it so that you need permission to enter parking areas. I mean, if it means keeping our kids safe, then let them do whatever they need to do to protect them from psychopaths.

It's sad that we should even have to think of these things, but we do. Oh, and metal detectors would be great; even in Elementary schools...  How sad that it has come to this in our world, but I think it needs to be done.

My Thoughts on the Newtown, CT Tragedy

Here is what I take away from all of this today. There is actually a lot to be learned from this senseless act of violence. Once again we're hearing about how polite the shooter was and how he was shy, quiet, etc. We also heard mental health problems.

First of all, let's not end up with a mental health stigma. Not every person in the world with a mental health problem is going to commit murder and most certainly not every person that's shy is a future murderer. It would be ludicrous to have that assumption.

But with that said, if someone is disturbingly troubled...and you know them...make sure that they are getting the help that they need. There are different types of mental illness and with some types you would have to worry about more if a person was walking around unmedicated or on the wrong medication, particularly if they experience psychosis, hear voices and experience hallucinations and delusions.

Here's the questions I want answered. What the H-E double L was wrong with him? That's the angry, human question. Realistically, though, what was his history? What led up to these acts? What was his dx? Was he untreated? Was he on street drugs? What made him snap? Normal people don't do these things. Someone that knew him missed something!

Something went wrong with his programming in his upbringing in spite of being raised in suburbia. Something went terribly wrong and we as a nation have a right to know what went wrong, because we as a nation are grieving for these children and these adults that were innocent in it all.

If you know someone with mental illness make sure that they're getting the help that they need and do not slip through the cracks of society. And I have one more question too that sadly the mother can not answer for us all.

Why in the world did his mother have guns in the house if she had a son with mental health problems living there? And how did he have access to them? See...gun laws wouldn't apply to this case, because the mother purchased them. I do think we need new gun laws now, definitely, but sadly that wouldn't have prevented this tragedy.

I have been against new gun laws only because I think that people have a right to bare arms, but now I think there needs to be new laws, most definitely. Even many gun owners are having a change of heart after this story. Although, like I said, it wouldn't have changed the outcome in this particular case, because the shooter was not the one that purchased the weapons used.

I think that what this story boils down to is his mental health and the fact that his mother owned guns when she had a young man in her house with mental illness. I'm sure that even if she didn't own guns and he truly wanted to commit this act that he would have found a way. They always do. But it would have made it a lot harder.

And last but not least, of course,  the universal message that we always take away from tragedies like these is that life is short. Hug and kiss your babies every chance you get and tell your loved ones you love them, because you never know if when you say goodbye it will be the last time you will see them...

In Memory of the Lives Lost in Newtown, CT on 12/14/2012

I made this late last night in honor and memory of the 20 little lambs that lost their lives yesterday in a senseless act of violence and the seven adults that were someone's mother, father, son, daughter, sister, brother, and/or friend.

May they all Rest in Peace and may the survivors one day find peace and strength to carry on after everything they've been through and are going to go through without their loved ones.

And I pray for all of the souls that witnessed such horrific violence and who will now have to live with those memories, the children, the adults that worked in the school and the first responders. May God be with them all...

Please share this candle and spread it with Love...

Carmen's Random Tips: How to Bake Perfect Cookies without Ruining Them

6 Tips to Achieve the Perfect Cookie!

How to Bake Perfect Cookies

nytimes.com
This is going to be short and sweet. If you want to know how to make perfect cookies you will be amazed at just how easy it really is, but one false move and mistake could result in disaster - a bad cookie

I messed up many cookies over the years, mainly from forgetting how long they were in the oven for...but let's pretend I didn't admit that, lol. Now my cookies come out perfect every time. I have finally mastered the perfect cookie and here's how...

The Perfect Cookie Tips

1.)  Follow your recipe precisely. If the recipe tells you to mix up your flour, baking soda, etc. in a separate bowl before combining with the creamed up butter and sugars, then do so. I made the mistake of thinking that I could just go ahead and add everything together after creaming up my butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla for an oatmeal cookie recipe that I have and that was a bad idea... So always follow the recipe instructions and before you know it you'll have it memorized!

2.)  Remember that the bigger the cookie, the less cookies you will make. That would also mean more calories too, if you're someone like me that watches things like that. Think about how big the cookies are in the bakery at the store or in the snack aisle. They're not very big, but they sure are filling.

Although, you can find the large specialty cookies; those are great for gifts or to make for a special treat. To get the perfect sized cookie, take a small teaspoon from your silverware drawer, scoop out some cookie dough onto the teaspoon.

You want enough dough to cover the spoon and you want it plump. We don't want big cookies and we don't want flat cookies, we want it "just right." So sort of pack it together and plop it onto your baking sheet.

3.)  Make sure to space the cookies out on the cookie sheet, so they have room to expand as they bake. If you're making smaller cookies, do three rows of five cookies spaced apart nicely. If you're making larger cookies, do three rows of four cookies.

4.)  Every cookie recipe has a different setting for the oven temperature. Some require 375°F, some require 350° and some even require 325°. Whatever the recipe you're following calls for, follow it.

5.)  Follow instructions for baking time. Most recipes usually call for 8-10 minutes. So set a timer for 8 minutes and start peeking in at them to see if they're almost ready. I usually let mine bake 10 minutes. If you don't have a timer, you can find a cheap one just about anywhere.

And remember that sometimes they may not look done after 10 minutes, but trust me, they are and you will realize that when they cool down. This adds to the perfect cookie.

Sometimes people think they're not done, so they bake them just a little longer and that little longer can give you an over baked cookie. Unless you like over-baked cookies, and some people do, then we don't want that.

6.)  Last but not least, and the best tip of all on how to make perfect cookies, is to make sure that both of your oven racks are adjusted to the highest position. Place one at the very top, then leave a space and place the second rack in the third row from the top.

And voilà! You now know how to make perfect cookies!

True Meaning of Christmas: What Christmas Means to Me and My Children

What I Love About Christmas

Over the years I feel like Christmas has become very commercial and is all about material things. I love Christmas, but despise greed.

I'm not knocking gift giving by any means. Buying presents is fun, but I believe there is a difference between gift giving and greed.

I'm sure Christmas means different things to different people, especially when it comes to people having different religious backgrounds and such. I'm just going to share what Christmas means to me and what I'm proud to say that I have instilled in my children.

My Memories Of Christmases Past

Growing up, life was hard. I was raised by a struggling and very hard working single Mom. Even though life was rough, she always did her best to make sure the holidays were bright for us. I am going to share some of my favorite Christmas memories...

Well the very first thing that I was taught growing up was that the true meaning of Christmas is about the birth of baby Jesus. I know that not everyone believes in Jesus and I'm not one to shove religion down someone else's throat, so I digress... I will just say that I have taught my children the same. In my home we believe in the birth of Jesus.

I remember how exciting it was to get out of school for the day as a child some time in November and noticing as I walked home from school that the town had decorated for Christmas while I was in school all day. I can't tell you how excited this made me!

I remember every year getting a real Christmas tree. The search for the "perfect" one and the excitement when we realized we finally found "the one!"

My mother taking my brother and I around town after dark to see all of the pretty Christmas lights. There's just something magical about Christmas lights, especially to a child.

Watching my mother decorate the house, then drinking hot cocoa with my little brother while Christmas music played on the radio and we decorated the tree. Sometimes if we were lucky there would be a Christmas special on TV at the same time too!!

Watching ALL of the Christmas specials I possibly could on TV, especially my favorites which would be all of the claymations.

My towns annual Christmas celebration.

As a New Yorker...the magic of snow at Christmas time...

Christmas caroling - I was lucky enough that I got to do that a couple of times as a child. That was very special to me.  I remember one night when an older cousin of mine was babysitting me and my little brother, he turned all of the lights off and turned the TV off.

The only lights on were the Christmas tree lights. Then we sang Christmas carols. I absolutely LOVED it and that will always stand out in my mind as a very special memory.

Going to see Santa in the mall and getting my picture taken with him - always a thrill!

Baking Christmas cookies with my mother and decorating them. Then leaving cookies and milk for Santa Christmas Eve.

But my favorite part of all was spending Christmas day with my family. My much older brothers would always come to dinner and sometimes relatives that we didn't see much would stop by or we would visit them.

So...What Does Christmas Mean To Me?

Don't get me wrong, I loved presents just like any other kid. Presents are awesome. I'm not knocking presents, but to me that's just not what Christmas is all about. That's part of it, but not all of it. For me it's the magic.

Getting in the spirit. Being kind to one another (which people should do year round and not just at Christmas time), decorating, looking at Christmas lights with my children now like my mother did with me.

Getting to play Santa now as a mommy and seeing the looks on my children's faces when they open their presents. Baking cookies with my kids like my mother did with me. Passing on all of the traditions. But most importantly - family.

That is what Christmas means to me. The warm feeling of togetherness with my family and loved ones. Togetherness with everyone really...

This Thanksgiving, I Am Thankful For...

photo credit: mimitalks, married, under grace via photopin cc
First of all, I think that it's important to give thanks every day; not just on Thanksgiving. And that is one of the reasons that I love this holiday so very much, because the emphasis is on giving thanks!

After all, the name itself is "Thanks"giving! Sure, it's also about turkey and having the biggest, yummiest feast that you can eat. And of course, it's about spending time with our loved ones and families.

Those are also my favorite things about Thanksgiving, but I think some people lose sight of the 'giving thanks' part. Not all, but some do. God already knows the things that I'm thankful for, because I share them in private every day. I am always thankful for the little things, because really, the little things are big things.

But here is my list of everything that I'm thankful for...

I'm thankful for my family, even though we are still at odds,
I'm thankful for my children; they are my reason for living,
I'm thankful every day that I wake up, because every day is a new beginning,
I'm thankful to be breathing the life that I've been given, because life is a gift,
I'm thankful every time my sons do something to make me proud,
I'm thankful every time my daughters look at me and smile,
I'm thankful for the warm roof over my head,
I'm thankful for the food in my belly,
I'm thankful for the clothes on my back,
I'm thankful for my hard times and struggles because they only make me stronger,
but most of all on this particular Thanksgiving Day, I am thankful for a second chance at feeling alive inside again. I love this life of mine and I am so very blessed and thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Carmen's Random Tips: Blog Layout Tips For Blogger Blogs

Blog Layout Tips for Your Blogger Blogs

Simple and Easy Blog Layout Tips

#1)  How To Customize Your Template:  First and foremost, make sure to "Back Up" your template before making any changes.  In the blogger dashboard, you'll see "Back Up/Restore" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  Click on that to back up your template.

Okay, so, you picked a cute layout but would like to change the color of the background, maybe the color of the header or maybe even the font?  Well, it's really simpler than you think!  You can tweak anything really, even the links.  Okay, so here's how...

First, from your Blogger dashboard, click on "Template."  It should be to your left on your computer screen.  You should see:

Overview
Posts
Pages
Comments
Google+
Stats
Earnings
Layout
Template
Settings

After you click on "Template," you will see "Live on Blog" and "Mobile."  Underneath "Live on Blog," you'll see an orange "Customize" button, click on that.  Now this is where you choose your template, layout, background color theme, etc.

But this is also where you can tweak all of that when you're finished, if you choose to.  You can pick a theme and color you like and still change a few things after that if you want.  All you have to do is click on "Advanced."

You will now have the ability to change the background colors, font size, font color, title, links, tab text, etc. for your blog.  You should now see all of your options.  Once you make the changes that you're happy with, click the orange button in the upper right corner of your screen that says, "Apply to Blog."

#2)  How to Center Your Blog Title Header:  This is very simple and will be short and sweet.  Follow all of the instructions above in Tip #1, and once you click on "Advanced," scroll down and look for "Add CSS."  It should be at the very bottom of the list, at the top you will see "Page Text."  Okay, so you've found the "Add CSS" section.  Now all you have to do is add this code to center your title:

#header-inner   {text-align: center ;}

If you want your title to be on the left, then this is the code you add:

#header-inner   {text-align: left ;}

And last but not least, if you want your title to be on the right, then this is the code that you add:

#header-inner   {text-align: right ;}

You will notice that the code is the same, with the exception of the word center, left or right.  If you center it and later decide that you want it to the right, just go into the "Add CSS" and change the word center to right and walla, that's it!  You're done!  Always make sure to click the orange button in the upper right hand corner that says, "Apply to Blog," so that your changes are saved.

#3)  How to Add a Picture to Your Blog Title:  Now this part can be both simple and tricky, it all depends on what you are doing with the picture that you're adding.  From the Blogger Template Designer, which is where we just centered your blog title and customized everything, you're going to now click on "Layout."  You will see "Layout" above the "Advanced" option.

So, click on "Layout."  Below the "Blogger Template Designer," you'll see your blog broken up into sections for you to edit.  At the very top is your "Blog Title," click edit on that section.  Now this is where you will add a picture to the background of your title if you choose to.  You can use a picture instead of a title, you can place a picture behind the title.

Once in this screen, you can figure out which is best for you.  After you've added your picture, you can then also decide if you need to re-do your title.  Maybe you'll want it to the right now, and so on.  What became complicated for me was that I wanted one picture for each side of my blog title.  So I saved a picture to my computer that I liked and wanted to use in my title.

Then I downloaded IrfanView for free, which is a program where you can basically play with photos.  This was where I shrunk my photos and created an image with one to the left and one to the right.  I also had to make sure the photo was the size of my blogger header when sizing it.  Then I added the photo behind my title and I haven't changed it since.  I think it's really cute.

#4)  Before You Create Pages Using Labels:  The first thing that you have to do before you get started is to decide where you want your labels to appear on your home page.  Do you want them off to the right or up on top?  To make that change, again go to your blogger dashboard.

Select "Layout" and choose where you would like to add your Labels Gadget.  Once you have added your Labels Gadget, you can leave it blank or you can give it a name.  For example, you could call it "Pages."  It's really that simple.  Click to Save and you're done.

#5)  How to Create Pages Using Labels:  If you are here, then you have come to the realization that you can not add new posts to blogger pages and you would like to be able to do that.  Well, you are not going to believe how very simple this is.  Are you ready?  All you do is this.

Suppose you just created a "New Post," in your new post before you make it live, you will see to the right of the screen a section titled "Labels."  Click in there.  Now this is where you add your key words that you want people to find you with in the search engines, but this is also where you can create a "page."

Suppose you want to make a page for "Blog Tips," so you would add "Blog Tips" to your "Labels" section that I just directed you to.  Click "Done" and your label is now saved.  Save the changes in your new blog post.

You will have to publish the post in order for it to show up in your new page that you have now created.  But you're not done yet.  There's a couple of more things that you have to do.  Go back to your blogger dashboard where you again see:

Overview
Posts
Pages
Comments
Google+
Stats
Earnings
Layout
Template
Settings

Click on "Layout" this time.  When you see the "Labels" section, click "Edit."  Now you're in the "Configure Labels" screen, which is a little pop up box that should have just popped up in front of you.  You will see "All Labels" and "Selected Labels," make sure that you have selected "Selected Labels" and not "All Labels."

Directly beneath "Selected Labels," you will see the number of labels that you have and you will also see the option to edit those labels.  So click on "Edit."  Now, remember we're imagining that we're creating a "Blog Tips" page/label, so in your selection of labels, you would check off "Blog Tips."  Remember to only select labels that you want to create pages with.

Anything that you check off here, would show up on your home page and appear to be a page.  Also check off "By Frequency" and "List," then uncheck the box that says, "Show number of posts per label."  Okay, so directly beneath this list of labels that you are now done with, click on "Done."  Always make sure to click on "Done" before you save, or else it won't save correctly.  I've done this, so I know lol.  And that's it, you've just created a page!

So, from then on out in the future when you wanted to add a post to this new page, this is what you would do... It's simple because you've already done the work to create the actual page.  Go to the "New Post" screen again.  You have finished your post and are ready to add it to your page, so off to the right hand section of your screen again where you see "Labels," you click on that.

Choose the page you are looking for, along with any other key words that you'd like to add.  Again, let's say the page is "Blog Tips," you would select "Blog Tips," then save and publish your new post.  Now when you click on "Blog Tips" from your home page, you will see all of your posts that are labeled "Blog Tips!"

#6)  How to Create a Page That Automatically Redirects People to Another Web Address:  In your blogger dashboard you will see this again:

Overview
Posts
Pages
Comments
Google+
Stats
Earnings
Layout
Template
Settings

Click on "Pages."  Now, where you see the option of creating a "New Page," click on the arrow within that box and a little drop down menu should appear.  You will have the choice of creating a "blank document" or a "web address" where you can send readers to another web address.  Click on "web address."

Now you will have a little window open up where you have to add the "Page Title" and the "Web Address."  The web address section is self explanatory, that's the website that you want readers to be redirected to.

In the page title section, choose a title that suits the website that you are directing them to.  If it's a business, put the business name.  If it's a place where people can learn more about you, put "About Me."  The choice is yours, click save and voila, you're done!

I hope you find these blog layout tips to be helpful and best of luck with your blogs!

Selena Gomez Weight Gain - Lady Gaga's Weight Gain - My Thoughts

When a Celebrity Gains Weight

The Pressure to be Thin and Perfect

photo credit: Arya Ziai via photopin cc
So I find myself thinking lately about something disturbing with Disney child stars that I've begun to notice. Okay, first of all many of them end up future train wrecks, but lately I was noticing that Selena Gomez has gained a "little" weight and people are taking notice around the web.

The girl has gained maybe 10-15 pounds; her face is a little rounder but she is far from being over weight
. She still looks skinny if you ask me, just a healthier weight. People are calling the girl "fat." Insanity... This world is so confusing and I've said it before to people I know...

The Problem with the World's View on Weight Gain and Weight Loss

We complain that the entertainment industry, etc. is sending a message to young girls and women that you have to be stick thin to be beautiful because that's all you see on TV and in magazines with the exception of an occasional thick girl or woman. But yet when someone thin gains weight she's called "fat."

And the celebrities that you do see thicker usually end up losing weight...most times, like Raven did from "That's So Raven" and our former little "Cosby" girl. Now she's being critiqued for her weight loss and people are even saying that she had plastic surgery. Her face looks the same to me, just thinner.

I don't think she had surgery.  People can really be so cruel and such haters.  Sorry to use that word because I hate it, but it's true. People who hate for the mere sake of hating are in fact...dun, dun, dun...haters.

I think what it is with Selena is that people are used to seeing her about 80-90 pounds soaking wet and now she's about 100 pounds soaking wet, lol. Maybe if people were used to seeing her a healthy weight they wouldn't have much to say, eh?

The Pressure of Fame?

It really blows my mind how cruel people can be. So what I'm noticing is a trend with these Disney stars and it really makes you wonder...hmm. Are they forced to be so thin to be famous? Because as soon as they're unleashed from Disney they put on a little weight and/or start getting reckless and also seem to start rebelling. Not all do, but many.

I personally think they lose their childhood and try to make up for it when they're "free." So the whole weight thing brings me to...you'll never believe...Lady Gaga! I found out yesterday that she has gained an astonishing 25 pounds and she really looks so different. Her fans found out when she went on tour and now she's trying to diet to lose the weight.

She said her father opened an Italian restaurant here in NY and that has been her downfall because of all the good Italian food (yum). And now the girl is getting judged and slammed by critics. I "think" I read that she was threatened by her label to lose weight.

Final Thoughts

I should add that I know that Lady Gaga was not a Disney child star, but I just felt like mentioning her because of the whole "Lady Gaga's weight gain" thing that's trending all over the internet as well right now. It's always nice to see that these people are just human like the rest of us... They struggle with the same things.

They appear to be perfect, but really they work hard to appear perfect. Nothing comes easy in this world; not even looking good. Which, by the way, I think they're both beautiful regardless!

And PS:  I still love Disney. We watch Disney every night. I'm just finding it disturbing that most of these girls are so thin on these shows, then as soon as they leave they gain weight and/or rebel in some way or another.  It just really makes you wonder...
