Attention Parents:
Do you have a fire safety plan? Whether you do or not, please read...
So I had a nightmare last week
and have been wanting to post about the importance of having a fire
escape plan with your family. We all know why it's important, but really want to share my dream. I believe that, often times, our dreams are warnings. I feel like my dream was a warning dream to revamp our fire safety plan.
The Inspiration for this Post - My Dream
So, a couple of days after my disturbing dream
I went over our plan again. I try to do this at least once a year. In case of
an emergency, we have our plan down to a science now. You should also have
more than one plan and try imagining different scenarios. You want to know
where all of your exits are and ask yourself, if an exit was blocked, what would you do?
Tips for Planning Your Fire Safety Plan
- Imagine different scenarios. Consider the possibility that you might be unable to see. Practice crawling to exits, etc.
- Include every possible exit and what to do in the event that an exit was blocked.
- If you have children make sure they know what to do if you can't reach them.
- Make a plan to meet outside at a certain spot.
- If you have a second story and have children you can buy fire safety ladders. They sell fire safety ladders on Amazon, and I "think" the hardware stores. Also, places like Lowes or Home Depot probably more than likely carry them.
My Final Thoughts
I told my sons that if something like that were
to ever happen, please don't ever worry about anything special, just get out. I also told them not to worry about me and their sisters. We're downstairs and I have
plenty of exits -- I would get us out. My main concern was with
them knowing what to do if I couldn't reach them. Now that we went over their options in the
event of an emergency, I feel at ease. No one wants to go through that, but it can happen to anyone, so please have a plan with your family. ♥
