I would just randomly help my mother clean the house. I would dust or mop. The one thing that I never did, however, was dishes. I was not allowed and honestly...I didn't want to.
My mother had her own way of doing her dishes just as I do now with mine. So because I never had to do dishes it was really hard for me to get used to them when I moved out on my own. In the beginning I rarely took my mother's advice with much, because I thought I knew it all and I was also very stubborn. She would tell me what she does with her dishes, offering her advice.
She would suggest that I rinse them as soon as I use them, and soak them, etc. Well I had to be stubborn and do things my way, the hard way. I didn't rinse right away, which meant more soaking time, which = wasting my own time. See Pet Peeve #2. Words can't begin to define how much I truly hate dishes. Because of our family size, it's a dream of mine to have a dishwasher one day in the near future. Hopefully by Christmas I'll have one. One can only dream a little dream...
I literally need one. The amount of dishes that I do in one day alone is unreal. I feel like I'm wasting my time and my day when I'm chained to the sink. That's how it feels...like I'm chained there... So it's ironic that I hated dishes so much for most of my life and now that's all I seem to do. Not only that, but since the birth of my girls I've been forced to stay on top of the dishes or else the kitchen would literally fall apart, lol. It really would, in point five seconds. This ship would sink...
So I went from being the type to soak them and then do them "later" or when I had the time, to rinsing and washing right away as much as I can. And if I can't wash them right away, then I at least make sure to soak them right away until I can wash them. I don't like my kitchen messy. A pet peeve of mine, which I should add to my list of pet peeves. :D
